Hello friends. We have neglected our little blog here as we have been engaging more regularly on our Discord server for the Oddlings Game Club NFT project here. (if you are not a part of our beta test group, visit the Discord server and sign up!) However, since 2023 is officially The Year of the Oddling we will be trying to keep updated posts here as well! Here is our latest update:
Good morning Oddlers! The updated test build WILL be out this month (barring any unforeseen circumstances). Should be 3rd or 4th week at the latest but we are anticipating and working towards sooner.
The biggest hold up is that we like you guys. We like you playing the game. We like you liking the game, and we really appreciate your patience and involvement with the whole thing. The bad part about that is that we are continuously finding things we want to give you in the update, which delays the update. We have so many fun things planned that it is really hard to scale it down to what is absolutely necessary.
However, we have determined that it will be far better to have a current live build that we can iterate on with all of you than to keep putting it off till it is perfect. So we narrowed it down to 2 things that are essential:
1. the updated medal system. Super fun and almost completed.
2. connect the leaderboard front end to the new leaderboard backend.
This will make the updated game work so we can push it out and continue to run tournaments and such. Then we can roll out weekly updates with new content and features, and celebrate each one adequately.
Some of the exciting and fun things we have been talking about that you will not see yet but will have to come out in the coming weeks:
- -New game balance (the update will still have the same unbalanced economy of the current version)
- -New skill tree arrangement with character unlocks and upgrades on their own branches with a special currency called “Gaia”
- -Leaderboard “Oddmojis” for expressing congrats and such to other players
- -Oddling house interior for collections, skins, customizations, etc.
- -Challenges and events with discrete leaderboards
- -Collectable trophies
- -Vertical biome changing
- -Head to head
- -etc.
Tech details for next few days:
Oddlings has a lot of UI. And as we continue to add community engagement features, there’s more and more and more UI to create. In particular, UI attached to gameplay (jumping, collecting items, breaking things) can be very difficult to test through normal gameplay methods – so we’re spending a little time making it easier on ourselves by building UI testing tooling for the next couple of days. The new medal system is in place, but the UI has been tricky to get right. This will be easy to wrap up with our new testing methods, expect some visuals this week to convey the changes prior to the build push later this month.
We are getting after it! So come with us!
